An issue was discovered in MediaWiki before 1.31.13 and 1.32.x through 1.35.x before 1.35.2. When using the MediaWiki API to "protect" a page, a user is currently able to protect to a higher level than they currently have permissions for.
The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor.
