A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Symantec Server Management Suite version 7.9 and before. A remote, anonymous attacker can exploit this vulnerability to achieve remote code execution as SYSTEM.
The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it reads from or writes to a memory location outside the buffer's intended boundary. This may result in read or write operations on unexpected memory locations that could be linked to other variables, data structures, or internal program data.
The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow.
