A path handling issue was addressed with improved validation. This issue is fixed in macOS Sonoma 14.7.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, macOS Ventura 13.7.2. An app may be able to overwrite arbitrary files.
The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer.
