IBM i privilege escalation

Description

IBM i 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, and 7.5 could allow a user to gain elevated privileges due to an unqualified library call in IBM Facsimile Support for i. A malicious actor could cause user-controlled code to run with administrator privilege.

  • The issue can be fixed by applying a PTF to IBM i. IBM i 7.5, 7.4, 7.3, and 7.2 are addressed. The IBM i PTF number for 5798-FAX contains the fix for the vulnerability. 5798-FAX is a skip ship product installable on the listed releases.
